Transitional times

I realize that the content here has slowed down and changed slightly over the last couple of weeks. I’ve written very little about science fiction, outside of my biweekly Vacation in the Golden Age posts. I’ve written very little about writing as well. So two of my major topics for this blog have been virtually absent.

Part of the reason for this is that I have just been overwhelmed. I am extremely busy at work, as I have said before. At home, I am busy with the family. The truth is, I haven’t had time to do any writing, either fiction or nonfiction. I have very little time to do reading outside my Golden Age reading. While I hope this trend will end, right now, I can’t see that ending.

Another part of the reason is that I feel like I am in one of those transitional phases. I needed a break and so I cut back a bit on the blogging and the writing and the reading in order to clear my head. Next step is to regroup and figure out a better approach to all of this. The personal analytics that I wrote about yesterday is part of this effort. I’m trying to examine all aspects of my life to see when and how I work most efficiently. I’m hoping that what will result is a new daily routine for me that is a bit more efficient, but doesn’t leave me feeling quite as exhausted at the end of the day.

All of this is to say that I recognize that the content and output here has changed recently and by no means to I intend for that change to be permanent. I’m just figuring out how to get to where I want to go, and once I’ve got that figured out, I expect things here to be back on track.

Thanks for bearing with me during this transitional time, and thanks to all of you who continue to read the blog (possibly hoping for something about science fiction or writing, as opposed to reminiscences as I approach 40). Things will be back to normal here as soon as I can manage.
