It’s funny where you get ideas for stories. For science fiction stories, I usually get my ideas by reading something and then thinking about taking it to an extreme; or by thinking about the unexpected way that things would happen.

Tonight I got an idea for a science fiction story from Coldplay’s song, “Fix You”. As I listened to the song on the way home from work, the climactic scene of the story just kind of formed in my head.

Harlan Ellison gets his ideas from a mail-order idea factory in Schenectady. I get mine from Coldplay songs. Go figure.
