I’m lucky I waited

Yesterday, I said I was going to try and finish up Up From Dragons last night. I nearly did but not quite. In fact, I have about 20 pages to go. This turned out to be a lucky break for me. Had I finished the book last night, I would have started reading How the Mind Works by Steven Pinker first thing this morning. And that would have meant a delay of a week or more before I could read William Gibson’s Spook Country and Joe Haldeman’s The Accidental Time Machine.

When I got home today, those books had arrived and now I am eager to finish the last 20 pages of Dragons so I can start right in on Spook Country. Gibson’s last book, Pattern Recognition, was my favorite of all his books that I’ve read, and so I’m hopeful. I means that I won’t get to How the Mind Works for 2 weeks or so, but I can live with that.
