• Daylight saving time

Daylight saving (it’s a compound adjective, not a noun!) time is already having it’s effect on me. I was up at 8 AM this morning and I have spent much of the morning reading. Much of that reading has been done on the couch, while I wait for it to warm up outside and I…

  • No animals were harmed during this blog

I was wondering something this evening. In some movies, toward the end of the credits, there is a notice that “No animals were harmed during the filming of this movie.” With all of the animals used in movies, however, there is bound to be some kind of accident. I mean, a horse might sprain an…

  • New story

    01 Apr 2006 » 1 min read about Writing & Publishing

I started a new story this afternoon, a mainstream story with a working title of “Muscle Memory” (a title that will definitely change in the final draft) and wrote about 1,300 words. I was eager to get this story written since it’s short and since I didn’t write a new story in March. In the…

  • Taxes have been paid

I went to the post office and mailed in my check for $2,900 to the Federal government, covering what I owed for tax year 2005. I dated the check today, April 1, 2006. Who knows? Perhaps the IRS will think it’s an April Fool’s Day joke and refund my money.

  • Happiness is a book

From I. Asimov: A Memoir: If I want to recall peace, serenity, pleasure, I think of myself on those lazy summer afternoons, with my chair tipped back against the wall, the book on my lap and the pages softly turning. There may have been at certain time in my life, higher pitches of ecstasy, vast…

  • Home late this evening

    01 Apr 2006 » 1 min read about Writing & Publishing

It’s 9:30 and I just got home. I hung out after work and waited for Todd and Karl to finish up and then we headed over to Champs to have some beers, and eventually ended up eating dinner. Last night, I gave my story “Wake Me When We Get There” to Todd and he read…

  • Spring Bliss

    31 Mar 2006 » 1 min read about Reading & Books

It’s beautiful here in Arlington, VA today. Sunny and warm with a light breeze. The beginning of spring is here. Every April I read the same three books, Isaac Asimov’s autobiographies, starting with I. Asimov and then In Memory Yet Green and In Joy Still Felt. This has become an April tradition for me for…

  • Back to writing

    30 Mar 2006 » 1 min read about Writing & Publishing

Spending the last month reading Gotham left no time for writing. Now that I’ve finished the book, it’s back to writing. I got started on the train ride home this evening, finally getting around to proofing the first draft of “The Graveyard Shift”. I got through 10 of 78 manuscript pages on the train. More…

When I got home from work this evening, I had a package from Dan and Megan. It turned out to be the 50th Anniversary: A Musical History of Disneyland, a 6 CD collection and coffee table book. What a cool present! Thanks Dan and Megan. How can you listen to the Main Street Electrical Parade…
