Another AL Victory

I cheated a little last night and snuck a peek at the game in the ninth inning, and so of course, I had to watch the rest of it, even though I awoke bleary-eyed this morning. Another great save by Mariano Rivera. I must say, however, that what I saw of the game was pretty boring compared to, say, last year.

This morning, I was annoyed to see a poll on Yahoo! Sports which seemed to indicate that most people think that the Yankees won’t make the playoffs this year. It doesn’t bother me because I’m a Yankee fan. I just think it’s way too early to call. Granted, I go into every Yankee game believing they can’t lose, but that’s the emotional side of me. Rationally, you’ve got to look at what they’ve done so far, what they’ve done in the past, and who they are up against. I would agree that I don’t think the Yanks will get in as a wild card. The AL Central is just too good this year. But the Yanks have won 50 games and are on track for winning 100; they are three games back from Boston, which is by no means out of it. Last year, the ended up winning the division with the same record as Boston. So I don’t see how 64% of 8500 people think the Yanks won’t make it.

Unless, of course, they are not voting based on what they think but instead, what they wish. In that case, I could understand it.
