I am always searching for ways to automate and increase my productivity, while at the same time, eliminate things that are drags on my time and just don’t work well for me. I find voicemail to be a cumbersome, awkward tool that is no longer particularly convenient either for me, or the person trying to reach me. These days, a text message or email message is likely to get a much faster response.
With that in mind, I updated my outgoing voicemail message on my personal mobile phone today to indicate that I am no longer actively monitoring the voicemail messages left on the phone. The outgoing message provides alternate ways of contacting me, including text message and email, both of which I can respond to quickly and easily.
I no longer get many voicemail messages and so I doubt this will really affect anyone, but going forward, know that if you can’t reach me by phone, text or email is your next best bet. My voicemail is officially retired.

Over here in the UK there is a charge to access voice mail, even if you are on a contract (on my network anyway. Nine out of ten times that my phone would say there was a voice mail it was the sound of someone putting the phone down. What a waste of twenty pence!
My voice mail message simply states that I am too cheap to pay this miniscule charge, so send a text instead.
