I’m about a third of the way through proofreading and making correction to “Graveyard Shift”. It is my plan to get a third done tomorrow night and the final third done Thursday night. Then one more read through on Friday for any last errors and then into the mail on Saturday.
At 7:30 PM EDT, I wrote the final words of “Graveyard Shift”. It was the most difficult story I’ve ever written to date. It is also the longest story I’ve ever written, coming in at 21,439 words, or 106 manuscript pages. The ending was much more moving than I thought it could be. I felt…
I am about to start on what I think will be the final writing session to complete “Graveyard Shift”. Six relatively short sections left to write, all of them fun because I get to tie up almost all of the loose ends.
I just finished a good writing session, getting in another 2,400 words. I’ve just about reached the climax of the story (will certainly get through that tomorrow) and the rest is just tying up the loose ends. As it stands, the story is now just over 20,000 words (just over 100 manuscript pages) long, but…
I’ve written about 3,000 words today attempting to finish up “Graveyard Shift”. About 30% of that was rewriting material to make it fit the outline that I came up with yesterday. That means that I’ve added about 2,000 words and the story stands close to 19,000 words right now. I expect to keep it under…
I finished reading Flashforward a little while ago (giving it a 3.0 on my rating system) and that cleared the way of any residual reading. Early today, I got the story that has been giving me trouble for the last six months, “Graveyard Shift” under control. The plan for this weekend is to finish the…
Every few years, I go through the stories that I’ve written and have failed to sell, and ultimately retire them. Since I’ve been doing this, I’ve gone through a few rounds of this, and each round represents a generation of my stories. Each round, also, I like to thing, represents a better and better set…
It’s not gonna happen.
I am going to finish writing “Graveyard Shift” by Friday.
I just finished going through the first 7,800 words of “Graveyard Shift” tightening it up a bit, making some correction, and looking for loose ends. And you know what. So far, it reads pretty well I think, and it moves pretty quickly. The novella presently stands at 16,300 words. There are at least three more…
And in addition to everything else I’ve got going on, I began this evening to have the first stirrings, the first twinges of desire to pull my novella, “Graveyard Shift” out of the desk drawer and set to work on completing it. It’s been in the drawer for months now and I think I’m ready…
I actually did some work on “Graveyard Shift” tonight. I completely rewrote part 4, taking it in a whole different direction, with the same outcome, however. I think it goes a long way to beginning to really improve the overall story and it adds yet another plot complication that ties in with the newly added…
