A new addition to the favorite beer list

We’ve had my sister and her family in town this weekend, so things have been a little quiet here on the blog. But I thought I’d kick of Sunday morning with a brief post about a new favorite beer I discovered at our local Dogfish Head restaurant this weekend. The beer is called Palo Santo Marron. It looks like a stout, but is actually a brown ale. And there is a sweetness to it that, to me, is reminiscent of Jaegermeister. It packs quite a punch, too, at 12% ABV. It was my second beer of the evening on Friday and after that, I didn’t need a third, despite how good it was.

But there was an even more pleasant discovery yesterday. Our local Safeway actually carries bottles of Palo Santo Marron, and we picked up a 4-pack last night. It is nearly as good in the bottle as it is on tap. (I say “nearly”, but this may simply be my psychological bias that all tap beers are better than there bottled equivalents.) In any case, it was particularly delicious with the homemade guacamole we were eating last night.

I don’t know exactly how local this beer is, but if you have the opportunity to find some in your area, give it a try. It really is an outstanding flavor. Now, if you’ll excuse me, we’re all heading over to the Original Pancake House for a big pancake breakfast.
