Workout #23 (Cardio)

01 Jan 2007 » 1 min read » Filed under: Fitness & Health

I slept in until 10 this morning, which is almost 6 hours later than normal for a Monday morning, but this is no ordinary Monday, it’s New Year’s Day! I headed to the gym at about 11:30 to do my cardio workout.

I blew away all previous records on cardio today, for some reason. I really wasn’t trying, but that’s what happened. I did my usual 40 minutes on the elliptical. I burned 589 calories, went a distance of 3.15 miles and reached a peak RPM of 114, all three of which were records for me. The one problem was that the machine I got on was not reading my heart rate so I have no numbers, but I estimate that needed about 75-76 RPM to maintain 149. I also suspect that my average RPM for the entire 40 minutes was between 77-80 RPM. After cardio, I did a group of chest exercises in preparation for my chest/back workout tomorrow.

Group 1 1st Set 2nd Set 3rd Set
------- ------- ------- -------
Chest press 12/95 9/105 6/105
Push ups 15 15 20
Leg lifts 12 12 15

I was disappointed with the second and third sets of chest presses. It seems that I should have been able to do more, and on the second set I probably could have, but I didn’t have a spotter and I was playing it safe. Next workout is 6 AM tomorrow. Now, I need a shower.
